Correcting Production Problems in a factory may require sending in an external independent team of inspectors, quality engineers and�product specialists not related to the supplier�s factory. � Our US customer�s had committed itself to marketing the products. Unfortunately supplier�s test production samples and initial production runs experienced high rejection rates after inspection. Several weeks of sending in their technical and quality engineers to the suppliers from the US did not create any resolutions to the quality and production problems. AMREP was given the �problem resolution� task. We assembled a team of quality inspectors, quality engineers and line production specialists to take over the production line for the headset. Our mission was to correct the quality problems, accelerate the production and delivery to meet our customer�s commitment to market delivery. By taking over the production line, we implemented corrective actions, modify the assembly process, reduce defects and train the factory operators and supervisors concurrently. We returned the production line to the factory manager and his production team after 4 weeks. We had a happy customer and a supplier who profited from the supplier improvement process. Fixing Motorola�s quality problems in Mexico.
� We had a call from Motorola USA Distribution Center in Harvard Illinois. Our mission was to fix cell phone quality complaints from� Motorola key customers. The quality problems were traced to Motorola�s Chihuahua, Mexico factory. We sent in our Mexican based process audits, did some FMEAs and layout a process for quality improvement. We started with a team of� 4 source inspectors� which grew to 60 quality inspectors and technical specialists. Some of the quality problems came from incoming materials and components. We sorted these out and handed back quality control to the factory after 8 months. Then we were asked to look into the quality problems inside their Tianjin, China factory.�� Mike Lee, AMREP Supplier Conformance and Compliance.�
